Sandra Smith, Devon singing teacher, has a B.A. Hons. in Performing Arts. She studied classical singing technique for over 13 years with John Grierson and Jennifer Caron (WNO) in London. Sandra went on to study the Voicecraft and Advanced Voicecraft training for contemporary singing and speech therapy. She has completed levels 1 & 2 of the ESTILL voice training. She is a Neuro Linguistic Programming practitioner (NLP) and has a certificate in counselling. She also completed the foundation course in Shiatzu. and now practises Thai Yoga Massage. She regularly goes on training courses to keep herself updated and to continue to be a student of singing.

Whilst in London, Sandra taught at the Mountview Theatre School, and had private clients at Central School of Speech and Drama, Arts Educational School and other major drama schools. She also taught independent label rock and pop artists.
Sandra’s own performing heart has been, and remains, embedded within the community arts.  She has enjoyed a diverse and extensive performing career. She has co-devised and toured Music in Education programmes in schools and centres around London, Oxford and Cambridge. She toured with Bedside Manners Theatre Company in London for 4 years as a singer and actress and also ran reminiscence workshops for the company.

She moon-lighted singing lead vocal with a 1930’s Big Band, the Mayfair Radio Orchestra, playing to packed houses in the Festival Hall foyer, Barbican foyer and the band had residencies at the Ritz, Savoy and Claridges hotels and regularly played society balls and appeared on Radio 2. She also performed with a music trio on the comedy circuit. She ran movement and music workshops for special needs groups with SHAPE organisation and Euston community workshops.

On arriving in Devon she ran reminiscence workshops and exhibitions for Devon arts organisations in Buckfastleigh, Ashburton and Teignmouth. Each town possesses a book with photographs in their museums.

Establishing her singing teaching practice in South Devon, as a Devon singing teacher, she quickly gained a reputation for being able to unlock voices with many amazing transformations. She is fervent about people singing wholeheartedly, with passion and consistency. She taught singing and performing skills at Dartington College of Arts for 10 years. She equally enjoys teaching beginners to embrace and explore their voices as well as helping professional working singers to look after their voices under difficult touring and studio conditions. She is particularly proud of her 2 year project ‘One BIG Sing’ a community singing project that had 4 generations of Buckfastleigh residents singing together with 2 local choirs, students and staff from the primary school.

She founded and directs The Lost Sound – Dartmoor Folk choir a leading choir in the South West. The choir has continually added support to award winning duo, Show Of Hands in the South West, since 2014 and was honoured to support them at The Royal Albert Hall for their 25th anniversary, in 2017. Singing to 5.5K people was an experience not to forget! They have also appeared on their Centenary Live Album and supported them at Sidmouth Folk Festival, St Ives September festival, on their Sanctuary tour and many local gigs.

The choir have appeared at Sidmouth Folk Festival to full houses, sung in London and Bristol plus many Devon and Cornwall festivals. Their recent singles have also been played on Folk radio stations.
